Tens of thousands of Catholics protested police brutality against priests and believers in Nghe An

Responding to the call of the Bishopry of Vinh, today tens of thousands of Catholics throughout the province of Nghe An, Viet Nam, participated in prayer vigils in solidarity with fellow Catholics in Con Cuong District, who have been subjected to repeated police brutality in recent months.

From early reports, the following congregations have participated in the prayer vigils held across Nghe An Province on Sunday July 15, 2012: Thuan Nghia, Van Hanh, Bot Da, Bao Nham, Cau Ram, Nhan Hoa, Cua Lo, Dong Thap, Phu Qui, Can Loc, Van Loc, and Xa Doai. The public security police accompanied by “thugs” reportedly attempted to disrupt the peaceful prayer service in Bot Da.
