In its recently released annual report on trafficking in persons, the US Department of State lists Vietnam in Tier 2, a ranking for countries whose governments do not fully comply with the US Trafficking Victims Protection Act’s minimum standards but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with those standards.
Vietnam was on the Tier 2 Watch List in the two previous years.
The report finds major deficiencies in Vietnam’s enforcement of the anti-human trafficking law that its National Assembly passed in 2011, and offers a list of recommendations for improvement.
