WASHINGTON (AP) – The State Department says a prominent Vietnamese dissident has arrived in the U.S. after being released from prison by Vietnam.
Cu Huy Ha Vu (coo hee haa voh) arrived in Washington with his wife Monday.
Vu is among the ruling Communist Party’s highest-profile critics. His father was a revolutionary poet and a minister in the government of Vietnam’s founding president, Ho Chi Minh.
Vu was sentenced in April 2011 to seven years in prison and three years of house arrest on charges that included conducting propaganda against the state and calling for multiparty government.
