Boat People SOS (BPSOS), along with 8 of our partners, has released a report on “Disinformation: Threat to Religious and Indigenous Communities and to Human Rights Defenders in Vietnam.”
“The report is an important contribution to analyzing and addressing the threats that our religious and indigenous communities face,” says Dr. Thang Nguyen, CEO and Executive Director of Boat People SOS.
The report addresses the call for input of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression for her upcoming report to the UN Human Rights Council on the issue of disinformation and freedom of opinion and expression. The submission covers the following areas:
- Vietnam’s obligations under UN conventions
- Vietnam’s Cybersecurity Law
- Vietnam’s laws against fake news, defamation and divulging state secrets
- State-sponsored disinformation campaign against religious and ethnic minorities
- Impunity for non-state actors
- Denied access to justice
